It doesn’t get much better than this at The Fair at the PNE. Beautiful weather, mini donuts, a gorgeous Prize Home, Family Feud, Superdogs, Pecking Acrobats, Tributes featuring Louisa Marshall as Tina Turner and a packed crowd at the WestJet Concert Stage welcomed Martina McBride! Wow – what an exceptional vocalist, great storyteller and gifted performer!
The crowd was on their feet singing along to hits including This One’s for the Girls, Love’s the Only House and the incredible A Broken Wing.
Other songs took on an anthem-like aura as McBride and the band performed songs like Blessed, I’m Gonna Love You Through it, Wild Angels, My Baby Loves Me and the amazing Independence Day. But that wasn’t all. Martina dazzled the crowd with some great covers like The First Cut is the Deepest originally by Cat Stevens and recorded by Rod Stewart and Sheryl Crow. She intertwined the song with Tom Petty’s Free Falling and thousands of voices sand along. McBride told the audience, “ I absolutely love singing for you. This is all I’ve ever wanted to do since I was four years old. I’m glad it worked out”.
The big surprise of the night was the encore when Martina came back on stage and overjoyed the crowd with a cover of Vancouver’s own Bryan Adams’ Summer of 69. This was definitely an evening to remember.
Don’t miss the remaining Summer Night Concerts with Lights playing on September 1 and closing the Fair will be Vancouver’s own rock sensations Loverboy playing on September 2.
