The Fair at the PNE recalls memories of sticky fingers from cotton candy and the smell of mini donuts in the air. However, in the spirit of Canada’s west coast, the PNE is also catering to those looking for healthier food options for themselves and their children as they enjoy their days at the Fair. The 2016 Fair will offer fairgoers healthy snacks and beverages for those who have restricted diets or simply prefer to eat healthy (in addition, of course, to the traditional Fair food).
Tossed Salads of Langley, BC will be providing locally grown and fresh salads for fairgoers. All of their produce is bought directly from the farmers at Windset Farms in Delta, Richmond’s Fresh Point, and International Herbs in Surrey. Market Fresh in the Main Food line will also be serving dishes made from fresh, local and sustainable items, made daily in the PNE kitchen and with ingredients from the PNE Chef’s Garden.
If what you’re looking for is just a snack, make a stop at Booster Juice, whose smoothies offer a quick and convenient alternative to fast food. Perfect for individuals with an active lifestyle or those looking for a great tasting way to consume their servings of fruit.
Trying to get your kids to drink less pop? Tell them they can drink a Fruit from the Fruit! Fresh coconut, watermelon and pineapple beverages are sold in their original shells, a fun and healthy way to stay cool at the Fair this summer.
There are several gluten free options at the Fair this year including favourites such as tacos and nachos as well as chapula, a freshly made crispy tortilla topped with your choice of spicy beef or seasoned chicken, accompanied by fresh salsa, lettuce, and refried beans. Also, don’t miss Saltspring Noodle Bar, offering Thai style gluten free noodles.
For those who can’t have dairy, gone are the days that you can’t enjoy a cool ice cream treat at the Fair! Try our dairy free frozen yogurt and self-serve topping bar. There are also sugar free options at Lemon Heaven, where you can get diet or diabetic lemonade sweetened with Splenda upon request.
In order to better serve guests at The Fair looking for healthy options, the PNE will highlight which food items are healthier on the menus and will indicate to Fair goers which vendors offer healthy options. Look for the green “Healthy Option” sticker on the PNE.ca website and the menu boards onsite.
See you at The Fair!
