Harvest-Themed Fun

Fall is officially here and so are some great events to help you celebrate it! From fun family events to the haunting Halloween festivities, there is so much to do this October. Here are our top 5 events that you should check out:

Harvestland

Harvestland is a brand new event and it’s taking place at Hastings Park, home of the PNE Fair. It is an event unlike any other harvest event out there. The kids will love cheering on the lumberjacks and going on tractor rides, while you snap the ultimate family picture in the Woodland Labyrinth and pumpkin patch. All right in Vancouver!

Dates: October 10-20, hours vary by day

Location: Hastings Park, home of the PNE Fair

Prices: $44.99 family, $14,99 adult, $9.99 child/senior (3-12, 65+), plus tax and fees

Fright Nights 

Nothing quite compares to the eerie, goosebump-inducing sensation that comes with a visit to Fright Nights at Playland. The air is thick with fog; creatures lurk in the shadows; the roar of a chainsaw followed by shrieks echoes in the dark distance. With 20+ rides and attractions (including dark mini golf this year) and 8 haunted houses, Fright Nights is the THING nightmares are made of.

Dates: Oct 4-31 (select nights)

Location: Playland

Prices: $25-$45 online for regular admission (includes rides and houses, price varies by date), $65-105 online for Rapid Passes (includes admission and Express Entry for Haunted Houses & 5 rides). PRO TIP: Buy tickets in advance to save money and skip the lines at the ticket booths.

The Stanley Park Hallowe’en Ghost Train

Each year the Stanley Park Ghost Train takes riders on a journey through a mystical and magical world, inspired by Halloween and other spooky tales. This family event is open to all ages and offers a glimpse of the goblins and ghoulish characters inhabiting the stories, legends and folklore of Halloween and Harvest celebrations. Don’t miss this year’s theme: Alice in Wonderland. Follow Alice and the Not-So-White Rabbit through an endless series of stone doors and enter into a gothic nightmare world filled with tombs and tombstones, crypts and catacombs!

Dates: Oct 11-31

Harvest Haus

Harvest Haus is the 19+ Oktoberfest-inspired celebration that Vancouver has come to love since 2014. With a delightful menu of liquid gold biers, hilarious character hosts, authentic Oompah and live DJ entertainment, and probably the largest collection of lederhosen in the country the party comes to life in true festive fashion. There are seven unique sittings so pick your night now before they sell out!

Dates: October 10-12, 18, 19

Dooms Night

Canada’s largest running Halloween music festival “DOOMS NIGHT” returns for its 16th year anniversary featuring Martin Garrix, Cosmic Gate, Sam Feldt, Julian Jordan & Daijo! This is an all ages event with a 19+ bar.

Date: October 25

Location: Pacific Coliseum

Price: $110-$149 plus fees

Behind the Scenes at Playland!

Playland has been in maintenance mode over the holiday break to be sure our rides are in tip top shape for the 2017 season! One of the largest projects over this period has been the winter maintenance of the Westcoast Wheel! Our tech team at Playland is absolutely amazing and has spent countless hours dismantling these rides and putting them into hibernation! Check out some of the photos below to see behind the scenes of Playland maintenance/ hibernation mode.

Wave Swinger

The Wave Swinger has all the chairs and chains removed to bring it to its maintenance mode over the winter!

 

Westcoast Wheel

The Westcoast Wheel dismantled and put into hibernation mode!

 

The Westcoast Wheel enclosures are stored away in their very own tent with heaters to have them ready for the 2017 Playland Season!

Merry-Go-Round

The Merry-Go-Round characters are all stored away to prevent them from being cold over the winter!

 

Flume

All the carts from our Flume ride are stored out of the water to prevent hypothermia!

 

In addition to putting the park into maintenance mode, our tech team is currently prepping the site for the 3 new rides coming to Playland this spring! Here is where one of them will be set up!
