How to Perform Well in a Group Interview

Interviews can be a nerve-racking process for everyone and in order to ease your experience, the PNE holds group interview sessions. Instead of the traditional one-on-one interview format, we ask you to participate in various activities and play an assortment of games within a team in the hopes of picking the right candidates and making this interview experience one that you will enjoy.

With the right attitude, preparation and confidence, you can make yourself positively stand out from the crowd.

Things to keep in mind:

Coordination and Teamwork xmarksmOne of the most common mistakes is forgetting that you are in a group interview and not giving those around you a chance to speak up. Groups can have very different dynamics and talking over those who are shy will not make you stand out in a positive way.

check marksmYou should always remember to never underestimate the power of teamwork; instead of talking over others, be considerate and coordinate with those in your group (include quieter people that haven’t said much). This will show us that you are a good team player, a great listener, and have leadership capabilities.

Speak Up xmarksmJust like you shouldn’t talk over others in your group; you also don’t want to be talked over.

check marksmDon’t be intimidated by others who might be doing all the talking, step up and voice your opinions.

Formality xmarksmAlthough we do want you to have a good time during this process, remember that this is still an interview and we are there to pick the best candidates.

check marksmMake sure you arrive on time to your interview, always be respectful and mindful to those around you, and dress appropriately.

Our ‘ideal’ candidate is someone who:

  • Comes to the interview in appropriate attire and is well groomed
  • Has a friendly, thoughtful and a positive attitude
  • Is confident, encouraging and open to new ideas
  • Participates in the group discussion and is a good team player

Finally, when you arrive to the group interview, try your best to just be yourself. Act like you normally would when interacting with your teammates (whether you’re on a sports team, in a band, or even just during group projects at school). We want this to be an enjoyable and stress-free experience for you. Relax, be confident, and let your personality shine. Good luck!

Looking Back at Fairs Passed

Through funding from the British Columbia History Digitization Program, the City of Vancouver Archives has been able to digitized thousands of our historic Fair images that the public can now easily view and share. This is a program that we’ve worked closely on over the past year, and are excited to be able to now share it publicly.

Take a look back through fairs passed to see how The Best Part of Summer has evolved and changed with the times!

A few of our favourite photos…

LionFountain

This lion water fountain is still used today during The Fair. It’s a little piece of history that children, parents, grandparents and even great grandparents can share.

The SuperDogs have been a Fair-favourite show for over 35 years.

PNEPrizeHome

Some things never change. Even back in 1964, there were lineups to tour the PNE Prize Home.

Many of you will remember the Sky Glider chair lift that soared above The Fair grounds. This photo is from 1971.

Ernie’s Soft Serve Ice Cream is a classic Fair treat, and one enjoyed by many guests during their annual visit. Ernie, and this same stand, have been at over 65 Fairs! Try his hot fudge Sunday this summer, it’s like nothing you’ll get elsewhere in town!

If you can remember back to the fairs from the 50’s and 60’s you’ll remember the annual competition for Miss PNE! Here’s Miss PNE 1959 with The Fair clown.
